Are you looking for a good guacamole recipe for your Super Bowl party on Sunday? I thought I would share my family recipe with you for what is the absolute best-tasting guacamole you could ever eat. You can make any changes you want to it to suit your tastes, but here is what our family chomps on:
Ingredients:
4 avocados (ripe, of course)
1 package of guacamole seasoning (usually found next to avocados in the produce section of your supermarket)
1 small can of diced Ortega chiles
1/4 of a white onion
2 tbsp of salsa (I just take a couple of scoops of my favorite salsa)
2 tbsp sour cream (Not fat-free! It’s the Super Bowl, for goodness sake. Calories be damned!)
Garlic salt (to taste)
Juice from lemon or lime (whichever you prefer and as much or little as you prefer)
Peel and mash up the avocados with a fork. Dice white onion into small bits (the better to get the flavor without chowing on a huge onion piece). Add chiles, onion, salsa and sour cream to avocado and mix together with fork. Cut lemon or lime in half, squeeze the juice into the guacamole mixture and mix together. Garlic salt to taste. Remember not to add too much garlic salt because the tortilla chips are salted. In fact, it’s best to taste the guacamole with a tortilla chip to get a better idea of how much salt to add. Cover the bowl with saran wrap, pressing the saran wrap down inside the bowl so that it sits directly on top of the guacamole and doesn’t allow any air in. Put bowl in fridge to marinate for at least an hour (if you can wait). Take out, add a little bit more lemon or lime juice (if you like), stir and serve. Make sure you get your taste in before everyone rushes the bowl (and they will)! Serves 8. Go Cardinals!
